The Watches

Our Pick

1. BOBO BIRD Men’s Wooden Watch nP09

The timepiece is not very small. Its case stretches 1.73 inches (44 mm) across. If you’re someone with small wrists, it’d look awkward on you. The nP09 comes with a beautiful wooden body; it is made from Bamboo. The company ensures that it’s made from sustainable wood, so you don’t have to feel guilty.

Although it’s made from Bamboo, the device has a bit of teak, ebony, and maple mixed in. This gives it its unique hue.

It is hypo-allergenic and nontoxic, so everyone can wear it.

If you look at its strap, you’ll notice that it’s a mix of wood and metal. The metal in-place is high-quality stainless steel. The contrast between the two makes the nP09 even more eye-catching. The timepiece doesn’t have a thick strap. Having a lot of metal on your wrist is not fun, you’ll collect sweat.

We don’t know what the glass on its display is. But we know that it can handle a beating. It is water-resistant too. However, you don’t get an exact rating. Many warn you to not swim with it. This probably means that its resistance rating is less than 100 feet (30 meters).

Who doesn’t love chronographs? We’re happy to see three of them on it. They are the three, black sub-dials on its face. They read the seconds, minutes and hours passed. If you’re wondering how chronographs work, they’re stop-watches.

This tree watch doesn’t come with any Arabic numerals. There are rectangular markers throughout its dial. They’re black, so they contrast sharply against the light brown. Being so thin, you don’t get any lume in them. However, there is pigment on its hands. We don’t know the name of the specific lume used, but it’s probably a regular Luminova.

There are a bunch of buttons on its sides. Before you get intimidated, know that two of the large pushers work its chronograph. The one in the middle is its crown. It’s grooved, helping you turn it better.

If you’re wondering about its movement, you’re looking at a Japanese quartz watch. The mechanism is more accurate than automatic ones, as you get fewer parts.

The device is super convenient as there is a calendar on it. It’s kind of small, though. And it only reads the day’s date.

What makes it special:

There are three chronographs.

2. BEWELL Unisex W163AG-BK

Although we didn’t know what the glass on the entry above was, we know exactly what’s on the W163AG-BK. You are met with Hardlex. The crystal was created by Seiko, and it’s their improved version of mineral. It’s not as tough as sapphire, but it can hold-its-own.

The timepiece is smaller than the nP09. It comes with a 1.61 inch (41 mm) case. We think it falls into the goldilocks zone of case sizes; it works on all wrists.

It comes in 5 designs. We’re fans of the ‘black’ one. Its deep colour makes it look luxurious. The company says that 100% eco-friendly wood was used. In terms of the wood present, a solid black walnut is on it. The watch is very comfortable to wear – it was made ultra-smooth.

It’s only water-resistant up to 100 feet (30 meters), so don’t think about swimming with it. BEWELL says that the most it can do is handle hand-washes.

It’s completely made of wood. There is no stainless steel on its strap. We’re glad that its band is not thick. Having a large band made from the material would collect more sweat than stainless steel. Speaking of size, it’s petite as it’s for both men and women.

Although the ‘black’ variant looks the best, it’s not the easiest to read. Its dial is deep, and so are its markers. They both blend well. As its markers are really thin, it’s not surprising that there’s no lume to them. Sadly, there is no pigment on its hands either.

You are looking at a Japanese quartz device. It hosts the Miyota Japan 2035 movement. It’s accurate, so you never have to worry about not being on time.

What makes it special:

There is Hardlex on its window.

3. No products found.

No products found.

The timepiece has a chunky case. Its bezel wraps around its dial, being one with its strap. As it’s made from wood, and due to its design, its face looks like a bowl. The Wogrez is big too. Its case stretches 1.96 inches (50 mm) across. If you have small hands, it’ll look awkward on you. This doesn’t mean that you can’t wear it, it’ll just eat your wrist up.

In terms of the wood it’s made from, you’re getting Acacia. The company promises that it’s eco-friendly. They also promise that it’s hypo-allergenic. We had no issues with it on our wrist, it’s smooth and very comfortable. It’s also non-toxic.

Just like its counterpart above, you can pick it up in multiple colours. Depending on the design you choose, the wood you get would differ. There is a 1001-XXM made from olive-wood, which is neat.

Although its face is huge, its strap is not. Considering what we said earlier, this is good.

Just like the rest, it’s not very water-resistant. It can only handle 100 feet (30 meters). Wogrez warns that splashes are the most it can withstand.

Once again, we have no idea what glass is on its front. So, don’t get too rough with it.

When you look at its dial, you’ll see thin markers throughout. They’re metallic, so they contrast with the brown display. You are getting luminous pigment on its hands. But as they’re so thin, the pigment doesn’t have the best surface to shine on.

It hosts a Japanese quartz movement. The Miyota Japanese 2035 is inside of it. If you remember, we saw it in the W163AG-BK too. If we didn’t mention it earlier, the movement is not only very accurate, but it’s long-lasting. You won’t have to change batteries for up to 2 years. Regularly changing batteries is something people despise about quartz watches.

What makes it special:

Its thick bezel.

Our Budget Pick

4. CUCOL Men’s CU02 Wood Wrist Watch

The CUCOL is not fully made from wood. Its face only is. In terms of the wood used, you’re getting 100% bamboo. It’s high-quality and feels great on your wrist. Its strap is not made from the material. It is leather instead. We know the specific leather present; cowhide. This is why it looks more rustic. It feels pretty premium. There is texturing on it, making it look rich too.

What’s cool is that there’s an almost earthy-aroma coming from it. CUCOL placed it purposely. Of course, the scent is not strong. It’s quite faint.

Once again, we don’t know what glass it has.

It is also big. The CU02 has a case that stretches 1.73 inches (44 mm) across. Its strap is really thin, though.

As it’s made from leather and wood, you need to avoid water as much as possible. The materials, especially leather, are not waterproof. This means that water won’t fling off them. This is true for all kinds of muck and dirt as well.

It’s probably the least water-resistant watch so far. It can only handle 33 feet (10 meters) underwater. The company says that brief splashes are okay. Just don’t get it wet that often. Considering how anti-waterproof it is, this shouldn’t be hard for you.

It looks good. However, it’s not the most functional. There are no Arabic numerals or large rectangular markers to read the time. There’s only a small outer ring with the minutes in an hour. They aren’t placed well, so you won’t be able to read the time.

Inside of it is a Japanese quartz movement. You’re more than familiar with the mechanism present. It is the Miyota Japanese 2035. As you know, it’s very accurate and doesn’t require you to change its battery for up to 2 years.

What makes it special:

It has an earthy aroma to it.

5. BYMAX 8541780156 Men’s Wooden Watch

Its face is completely wood. However, its strap is a mix of the material as well as stainless steel. It’s almost identical to the design on the BOBO BIRD piece we discussed.

You can pick it up in a few designs. We’re fans of the Zebra wood one as it looks the most alluring. Each design looks pretty different from each other.

We’re fond of the size of its case. It’s 1.65 inches (42 mm), which falls into the case sizes that we think fit a range of wrists. Although its face isn’t big, its strap kind of is. If you’re going to wear the BYMAX for a long time, prepare to sweat.

Yes, it looks like the BOBO nP09. But you’re not met with chronographs on its dial. There is no lume on its hands either. Its dial is not easy to read. It’s dark and so are its markers. The fact that its display is textured makes things even harder. But the texturing adds to its aesthetic.

How water-resistant it is is unknown. You’re advised to not get it that wet, though. Many say that it can only handle brief hand-washes.

The 8541780156 is another timepiece that is Japanese quartz. There is a Miyota movement in it. But we don’t know its specific name. It’s quite reliable, so it could be the 2035.

Unfortunately, we have a problem with this wood faced watch. Just look at its crown – it’s small. It’s not grooved that well either, so you’re going to have a hard time gripping it.

What makes it special:

It looks like the BOBO BIRD np04

6. BOBO BIRD FO26-1

The timepiece is also made from Zebra-wood. The quality of it is high. BOBO BIRD is known for quality anyway, so this isn’t a surprise. They say it’s hand-made - you know it’ll last a long time. We have to say, it’s smooth. It will feel like a dream on your wrist.

There are sleek rectangular markers on its sides. They are thin, so there’s no lume to them. There is pigment on its hands, but it’s not very bright.

It’s a big watch. Its case stretches 1.79 inches (45 mm) across. Its strap is kind of thick too. As you know, wearing large wooden bands is not fun.

You can’t pick it up in many colours. The only options available are light brown and a darker shade. Although the dark one is stunning, it’s hard to read. Its face is black, which blends in with its markers. The brown variant has a yellow face, so blending in is not an issue.

Although its case is made from zebrawood, you’re also getting bamboo on its strap. The brand places the wood on many of their pieces.

Something cool about it is its calendar feature. It’s not like a traditional one. There’s a column that reads the day of the week. Depending on what day it is, you’ll see a red dot. Across it is its day feature. It’s kind of small. It’s bolded well, though.

The timepiece is quartz. It’s the Japanese type. No, we don’t know the name of its specific mechanism. However, BOBO BIRD is known for its highly reliable movements.

There’s no word about specific water resistance. But you probably shouldn’t get it wet. Wood is not water-proof, as you know. We think it’s less resistance than 100 feet (30 meters).

What makes it special:

Its calendar feature.

Things You Should Know

Now that we’ve run through some amazing wooden watches, we’ve answered some burning questions you may have below.

Are Wooden Watches Waterproof?

Wood is not waterproof. This is true for all kinds of wood, even the ones on furniture. Watches made from the material can be splash-proof, but they’ll still soak up water. That’s why the CUCOL CU02 may not be the best if you’re always exposed to liquids. It also comes with leather, which soaks up water even worse.

How Often Do You Clean Watches Made Out Of Wood?

If you’re thinking of picking the timepieces up, know that you’ll regularly have to take care of them. Wood easily collects dust, and when it gets dirty, you can immediately tell. We recommend that you get a microfiber cloth to scrub your pieces down.

What Temperatures Can Wooden Watches Handle?

You shouldn’t take them to settings with fluctuating temperatures. They can expand and freeze rapidly. Unless you want to experience chipping, avoid this.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to wooden watches, you’re looking at devices that are fashionable, unique, and recyclable. Many brands produce the pieces. Unfortunately, the niche is still small. We think Canada makes the best wooden watches.
