MVMT Watches Review - Are They The Real MVP?

MVMT is a fashion brand that also produces watches. Their timepieces are minimalistic and good-looking. However, they’re not known for their quality. In our MVMT watches review, we not only talked all about them but reviewed some of their watches too.

Who is MVMT?

When it comes to timepieces, heritage matters. MVMT however, is new. The company was founded in Los Angeles in 2013 and is now owned by the legendary Movado brand.

It was founded by college dropouts, who acquired the funds to start their vision through crowdfunding. One of the founders, Jake Kassan, is their current CEO.

MVMT has done well. By September 2018, they reportedly sold over 1 million units. They were acquired by Movado for $100 million, which is a testament to this.

As mentioned, they don’t produce the most quality units. They’re minimalistic fashion watches.

Our Pick!

1. MVMT Men’s MC01BL

The timepiece is a vision in black. We’re fans of black watches, they look chic. The MC01BL was made from leather and stainless steel. There’s stitching on its strap, making it look hand-made. Cow-hide was the leather used.

The stainless steel on it is surgical grade. This means that scratching and corroding it will be hard. If you have small hands, wearing it might look awkward, though. Its case stretches 1.771 inches (45 mm) across.

As its dial is black, you might not notice the three chronographs. The large buttons on its sides work them. They’re tactile.

You’re not getting any lume. Even if there was, the pigment used wouldn’t have been LumiBrite worthy.

It’s water-resistant up to 165 feet (50 meters). With such a rating, you’ll be able to handle brief submersions. However, getting leather wet isn’t fun; it soaks like a sponge.

The mechanism it houses is Japanese quartz. There’s mineral on its display. If you’ve read our reviews before, you’d know that the crystal is not the hardest around. This crown goes to sapphire.

If you turn it around, you won’t see a skeleton rear. It would’ve been the cherry on top – unfortunately, exposed backs are usually seen in automatic pieces.

What makes it special:

It’s a full black watch

Our Women’s Pick!

2. MVMT Women’s FC01-S

As it’s a women’s watch, it’s on the smaller side. Its case stretches 1.49 inches (38 mm) across.

We love its chrome exterior; it makes it look futuristic. The coating was placed onto a stainless-steel build. The steel is surgical grade, so it’s high-quality. You’re getting steel on its strap as well.

The bezel on it is very thin. This is something seen in more expensive units.

It comes with a hardened mineral display. Don’t get too rough with it.

You don’t have to look closely to notice the three sub-dials on its face. No, they are not chronographs. Two of them are dual-time features. The other tells you the day of the week. The large buttons on its side work them.

Speaking of its face, there are no Arabic numerals. We also saw this in the entry above.

It is water-resistant. But it can’t handle considerable depths. How do you feel about 165 feet (50 meters)?

Inside it is a Japanese quartz mechanism. We’re fans of quartz as they’re reliable. They don’t come with as many parts as mechanical counterparts, so there’s less room for error.

What makes it special:

Its dual-time features.

The Best Looking!

3. MVMT Men’s MT01BBL

There’s a gradient on its display. It shifts from a dark shade of blue to a lighter one. We love that there’s a metallic effect too.

The MT01BBL looks very classic. Its strap is brown leather. It was made from calf-skin. There’s stitching on it, making it look premium.

It’s small. Its case stretches 1.57 inches (40 mm) across. Just like with big watches and small wrists, if you have large wrists, you can still wear it. It would just look awkward on you.

The glass on its display is mineral, which is not very tough.

How water-resistant is it? It can handle depths of 100 feet (30 meters). Occasional splashes will be all it’ll be able to handle. Keep in mind that you shouldn’t get leather wet.

Its face is not as minimalistic as the above entries. It’s still very simple, though. There are thin rectangular markers all over it. Its watch hands are also thin and sharp. Unfortunately, no luminous pigment was placed.

Inside is a Japanese quartz movement.

What makes it special:

The sunburst effect on its dial.

4. MVMT Men’s MR01-GML

The timepiece is extremely eye-catching. Its face is matte black, while its strap a textured brown leather. They contrast yet go well together.

It probably has the most minimalistic dial on our list. There are no numerals or markets, just indentations on its bezel. There’s a sub-dial in the 6 o’clock angle. It tells you the time in another time zone.

As you might’ve guessed, mineral glass is on its display. Don’t get too rough with it.

It is a perfect size. We’re fonds of watches between 1.61-1.65 inches (41-42 mm) and this is the former.

Take a look at its crown. MVMT curved and grooved it well. It’s ornamental in design, which is attractive.

There is a Japanese quartz movement inside which moves as smoothly as the others. Sadly, the manufacturer hasn’t made the specific caliber it houses public knowledge.

It is water-resistant to 165 feet (50 meters). With such resistance, you’ll be able to submerge it for short periods.

What makes it special:

Its textured leather strap

5. MVMT Women’s MB01-TIMA

It’s completely made from surgical grade stainless steel. You’re getting a mesh strap. It makes the MB01-TIMA feel like jewelry, which is great as it’s for women. There are several holes in the mesh. This helps airflow, letting your arm breathe.

It is small and comes with a 38 mm case. All the women’s watches we talked about had similar-sized faces.

Like the rest of them, it also houses a Japanese quartz movement.

On its front is a familiar crystal. It is a hardened mineral, which is not very strong.

There’s a marble effect on its dial. It’s not real marble, as the TIMA is too affordable.

The thing is:

It looks good, but its dial has no markers. It’s really hard to read the time.

It would have taken the spot as the most minimalistic option on our list, however, its marble display is the opposite of minimalistic.

The material on its strap is leather. It feels like a million bucks.

It’s water-resistant up to 100 meters (30 feet). MVMT says that a couple of splashes will all it’ll be able to handle.

What makes it special:

Its rich marble effect

Final Thoughts

Now that you know what the best MVMT watches are, let’s answer some burning questions you may have.

How Are Their Warranties?

When you purchase from the company, you’re getting a two-year warranty. They offer extensive coverage, so you don’t have to worry about damaging units. Their warranties begin from the date of purchase.

Their products also come with return policies. The policy applies to all items within 60 days of delivery.

Are MVMT Watches Good?

Their timepieces are stunning, no question about it. But they aren’t high-quality. They are fashion pieces, which watch enthusiasts aren’t fans of. They’re devices that focus more on beauty than anything else.

Do They Only Sell Quartz Pieces?

All of our entries were quartz. Automatic watches require many gears, which would make the manufacturing process more expensive.

What is Their Reputation Like?

As mentioned, they make fashion watches. Watch enthusiasts are all about heritage and horology, so this is a slight drawback, especially since MVMT is a new brand.

Where Are MVMT Watches Made?

Although they’re designed in the US, the watches are manufactured in China.

The company’s units look great, and they’re pretty affordable. When it comes to the devices we talked about, they are all very similar. It’s clear that MVMT makes minimalistic pieces.
