Bulova’s not the most popular brand, but they’ve been releasing amazing watches for a while. They market themselves as a quality name, and as you’ll see below in the Bulova precisionist review, they aren’t wrong to do this.
They offer many collections, but the Precisionist is our favorite. The watches in the line-up consists of uber accurate quartz pieces. Let’s talk about some of the best ones.
Instead of jumping right in, read the below table. We summarized some of our favorites from the entries below.
Our Pick
The timepiece is stunning. It comes with a multicolour body that grabs a lot of attention. The watch’s exterior is shiny. It’s shiny as it’s stainless steel. Silver and gold were plated on. Bulova did a good job with it.
Mineral dials aren’t the most resistant. The one on the 98B228 is, though. It’s curved, so trying to wreck it is hard. Being domed, you get a fish-bowl effect that’s a staple amongst premium watches.
If you have smaller wrists, the 98B may not be the one for you. Its case stretches 1.85 inches (47 mm) across. Its band is pretty thick too.
The precisionist line has quite the water-resistant pieces. The one you’re looking at can handle up to 1000 feet (300 meters) underwater. Its stainless-steel body helps with this as it is waterproof.
It’s a luminous unit, letting you read the time well underwater. Being a superb dive watch, you may be wondering if its bezel rotates. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.
How could we not talk about how accurate it is? It has a Japanese quartz movement. What’s noteworthy is that it boasts a 1/1000-second precision. It also offers an amazing accuracy of up to 5 seconds a month, as it is 262.144 kHz.
If you take a look at its display, you’ll notice three sub-dials. These are its chronograph features. You work them with the buttons on its sides. They’re large, so they’re easy to use.
What makes it special:
It can handle 1000 feet (300 meters) underwater.
The Best Looking
Although its sibling mentioned above is stunning, we think the 98D149 is better-looking. We’re huge fans of its rose gold and gun-metal body. The gun-metal is stainless steel. Like its sibling, the gold was plated on.
The watch can handle quite the dip underwater. It’s resistant up to 1000 feet (300 meters). Its case and crown are sealed, not letting any water enter. Unfortunately, its bezel doesn’t rotate. Its face is luminous, though. The luminous paint is on its hands too.
The 98D doesn’t come with a chronograph. There is an easy-to-read calendar instead. It isn’t like normal calendars, reading the current date as well as the dates that are about to come and have just passed.
You’ll notice no numerals on its dial. Bulova decided to spice things up, adding diamonds as its hour markers. We don’t know if they’re real or not, but Bulova promises that they are. We bet that it’s a synthetic jewel.
The glass on its front is mineral. It’s not curved, so be careful.
The watch is on the larger side, but it’s not as bad as the 98B228 – it has a 1.83 inch (46.5 mm) case. Like the 98B, its band is on the thicker side too.
The watch is very accurate. It comes with a 262.144 Khz frequency. If we didn’t mention it earlier, know that it’s 8 times more powerful than regular quartz. This lets it be accurate up to 5 seconds a month. Considering that regular quartz watches are only accurate up to 15 seconds a month, we’re pleased.
What makes it special:
Its diamond markers

Being a woman’s watch, it’s not surprising that it’s small. The 97M104 has a case that’s 1.14 inches (29 mm) across. Its strap is really thin too. Speaking of its band, it’s not stainless steel – you’re getting leather. The leather is high-quality and feels like a pillow on your wrist.
The entry unfortunately can’t handle much water. It’s only resistant up to 100 feet (30 meters). You probably wouldn’t want to swim with it anyway. It’s a leather watch; if you didn’t know, the material is very hard to dry when soaked.
There are gold accents all over it. They weren’t painted in-place. Bulova ion-plated the metal, and it contrasts beautifully against its dark brown strap.
Being such a small watch, you wouldn’t expect a calendar. The manufacturer manages to fit one in without making it too small to read.
The Precisionist is luminous too. There is lume on its hands.
About its front:
You’re getting a mineral crystal. As you know, glass is not the most resistant. That’s why we’re happy that it’s domed.
Being such a dainty watch, you wouldn’t expect it to be shock-resistant either. Its case is thick, so it can handle a beating.
We have something to say – we have no idea how accurate the 97M104 is. As it’s from the Precisionist line, you’d expect it to have a 262 Khz, but Bulova hasn’t made this knowledge public. We believe it does, though. The timepiece’s movement is super smooth.
What makes it special:
It’s the only ladies’ watch on our list.
The diamonds on the 98D were cool, which is why we’re happy that the 96D has them too. They make up its hour markers. However, they are daintier in size. The watch in general is dainty for a men’s piece. Its case is smaller than its counterparts’, stretching 1.61 inches (41 mm) across. Back to the diamonds – you’ll probably like to know that they were hand placed.
The watch doesn’t come with anything plated. But its body is brushed. Its stainless-steel exterior looks rich. It’s also waterproof. Speaking of water, how much of it can it handle? A 100-foot (30 meter) dip underwater.
If you look at its dial, you’ll notice that it’s pearl-like. The effect makes it even more good-looking. As the dial is shiny and has diamonds, it gets very reflective. If you have poor eye-sight, this may not be something you want to hear.
It comes with a luminous display. The lume is on its hands. However, there’s not much of it.
There’s a calendar on the timepiece. It’s pretty classic, we appreciate how easy it is to read. A lot of brands place calendars with unreadable fonts. It’s also placed in the 4-o clock position, which makes it easier to read.
We know that it comes with a 262 kHz movement. Like its siblings, it’s one of the most accurate watches on the market.
What about its crystal? You’re looking at another mineral unit.
What makes it special:
Its silver-toned body
The 96B158 is another leather watch. The leather feels high-quality and it’s also quite soft. It’s not that big. You’ll see the strap being narrow, while its case is moderate in size. How big is its case? About 1.65 inches (42 mm).
As you know, getting leather watches wet is not a good move. Thankfully, the timepiece can’t handle much water. It’s only resistant up to 100 feet (30 meters).
It is luminous. The luminous paint isn’t just on its hands but on its markers too. There’s quite a bit of lume painted on, which we’re happy with.
Its dial looks great. Its grey and black swirls aren’t too out there, but they still grab attention. The 96B’s second hand does the trick as well. It’s almost scissor-like. The watch is one of Bulova’s more classic looking units. We think it also has a feminine touch to it.
Like its siblings, it doesn’t come with a fancy window. It’s mineral but is sadly not domed. Don’t get too rough with it.
No surprise, it comes with a 262 kHz movement. As you know, its quartz mechanism works 8 times more than regular quartz devices.
There’s a calendar on its display. We aren’t fans of the features not placed properly, which is why we’re glad that the 96B’s is in the 3-o clock position. We’re also glad that it’s in an easy-to-read font.
What makes it special:
Its scissor-like seconds hand

We’re happy to wrap up our review with another chronograph watch. The 96B18’s chronographs read the seconds, minutes and hours passed. However, we don’t think they’re easy to read. They camouflage with the display as they’re the same silver shade, just with an effect. The markers on the chronographs are pretty small too. Speaking of the effect, it’s metallic, which is classic.
Not only does it come with a chronograph, but it comes with a tachymeter too. The two lets you calculate the speed and distance between objects.
The timepiece is huge. Its case stretches 1.69 inches (46 mm), and its chronographs buttons are huge.
We’re fans of how dark the black on its dial is – it makes the watch look grand-father clock-like. The ornate seconds hand helps with this too. Without a doubt, the watch looks ornate. It shouldn’t be a surprise that it can’t handle much water. The watch is only resistant up to 165 feet (50 meters) underwater.
Yes, the final watch on our list also has a mineral dial. Considering that Bulova is a quality brand, we would’ve loved to see sapphire. The 96B1 is super accurate and comes with a 262 kHz quartz.
Its calendar isn’t placed well. You probably didn’t even notice that it was there – it’s in the 4 o'clock position as is small.
Speaking of things being easy to read, its markers are Arabic numerals. They’re pretty big and come in black.
Just so you know, the watch is the most expensive one on our list. I mean look at it, it looks like it costs an arm and a leg.
What makes it special:
The availability of a tachymeter
To sum things up, the precisionist is a line full of accurate watches. If you didn’t know, quartz watches are more reliable than their mechanical and automatic counterparts. They have fewer parts, leaving less room for error. They are also intricate, using circuits to power watch hands. The electricity from the circuits is responsible for them being so accurate.
You may want to be on time, which is why the Precisionist line is great. Not only do the devices in it look good, but all they all come with 262 kHz mechanisms. The quartz in them vibrates 8 times faster than normal quartz pieces. This results in just 5 seconds of error a month.
Let’s talk about why we picked the 98B228 as our number 1 pick. It’s a superb dive watch, coming with 1000 feet (300 meters) of resistance. It also has a chronograph, is not that expensive, and looks stunning. Its competitors also packed some serious punch, which is why we had to assess things very carefully.
